Emergence definition

Tectonic plates emerge as large, rigid slabs of the lithosphere, comprising rock, that exhibit a specific structure, characterized by a form, and move slowly relative to other plates, driving continental drift, as a result of the organized arrangement of matter and the interactions of particles that make up the Earth's crust.
