Uganda has begun withdrawing its military forces from Somalia after nearly two decades of deployment, per hiiraan.com. The move marks a significant shift in East African regional security strategy.

The troop withdrawal follows growing tensions between Uganda and Somalia over the prolonged military presence, with local officials noting that the extended deployment strained bilateral relations, theeast.african.co.ke reports.

This decision comes amid broader regional instability, as the security architecture in Somalia continues to unravel, according to ftlsomalia.com. The shift may impact ongoing operations against al-Shabaab and regional peacekeeping efforts.

The withdrawal also coincides with domestic economic pressures in Uganda, including a recent rise in inflation to a three-year high, Reuters notes. The central bank has raised interest rates in response to currency fluctuations.
