Hungary's governing Fidesz party has endorsed a new chief prosecutor candidate, per Reuters. The move comes amid ongoing political tensions over judicial independence and the rule of law.

The ruling party's support follows criticism from opposition groups and international observers who question the nominee's qualifications and previous affiliations with the government, The Guardian reports.

Budapest has also seen a resurgence in cultural events this week, including performances inspired by Harry Houdini’s legacy, as the city commemorates the centenary of his death, Times of Israel notes.
