Uganda has begun withdrawing peacekeeping troops from Somalia after two decades of fighting al-Shabab militants, per BBC reports. The move marks a significant shift in regional security dynamics as Kampala reassesses its military engagement in the Horn of Africa.

The withdrawal comes amid ongoing instability in Somalia and raises questions about the future of anti-extremist missions in the region. The UN has expressed concern over potential security gaps left by Uganda's departure, particularly in areas previously stabilized by their presence, according to the Washington Post.

In related developments, Kampala is among the top 10 most polluted cities globally, with air quality deteriorating rapidly due to industrial expansion and urbanization, IQAir notes. This pollution crisis threatens public health and environmental sustainability within the capital.

Meanwhile, Uganda has arrested a former military chief accused of engaging in subversive activities, signaling internal political tensions at home, 10TV reports. The arrest underscores concerns about military loyalty and governance amid regional security shifts.
