Thousands of troops have been deployed to Jakarta to secure a high-profile trial amid escalating tensions over an alleged wiretapping scandal involving top political figures, per the Washington Post.

The arrests stem from allegations that President Prabowo's opponents were monitored through illegal surveillance, sparking nationwide outrage and calls for transparency, Bloomberg reports.

The trial has drawn significant attention as Indonesia's political rivalry intensifies, with public demonstrations and media scrutiny mounting over the implications for democracy and governance, oskaloosa.com notes.
