A midair collision of two helicopters near Mount Everest on Tuesday left one Indian tourist dead and a visitor from New Zealand and two pilots injured, according to Nepal's civil aviation authority per facebook.com.

The incident occurred during what was reportedly a rescue flight, with the New York Times reporting that the crash happened near the base camp area, adding to the dangers of Everest expeditions.

The extreme cold conditions at Everest base camp, currently at -32.5°C (per open-meteo), may have affected visibility and aircraft performance, though no direct link was established between the weather and the crash.

Rescue teams are working in the harsh mountain environment to recover the victims and assess the damage from the crash site.
