Movie Substrate · Request

Request a film.

The catalog grows every week, but it is nowhere near everything. If a film belongs in here — or if a reading already in here gets its film wrong — this is where to say so.

What happens to a request

Requested films need a substantive Wikipedia plot to be analyzed. If it has one, it enters the next analysis batch and usually appears within a week or two. You can see what's already queued on the waiting list.

Disagreements are just as useful. Explain the lens you see the movie's universe through. Give feedback here, or open a discussion in the subreddit with me and others. The methodology explains what the rules currently enforce.

What a useful message looks like

Anything is welcome — a bare title is fine. But the messages that change a reading say where the film sits, not just that it's good:

A film to add

Wolf Totem (2015). A man raises a wolf on the Mongolian steppe and the film keeps its animals as animals — no minds moved onto them. What it really traces is a way of life colliding with a state. Worth reading at E7 and E12.

Feedback on an analysis

Stalker (1979) is marked reality-unaltered. But the Zone isn't set dressing — it's a standing rule the world runs on and the film obeys it rigorously. That looks like a parameter shift to me.

The form

For a request: why this film is worth reading — which rung it fights on, what its world hides or alters. For feedback: which film, and what the reading gets wrong.
Only used to reply about this message. Nothing else, ever.
